The finest craft beer for Wisconsin!
With their New Glarus Brewing Company, founded 23 years ago, Dan and Deb Carey are pioneers on the American craft beer scene. Since 2004 they have been filling their top Spotted Cow and Moon Man brands on KHS machines.
If you want to savor the outstanding beer brewed by Dan and Deb, you'll have to go to Wisconsin – for this is the only place it's supplied. New Glarus Brewing Company makes 200,000 barrels a year exclusively for its US home state of Wisconsin. The new canning line, with the KHS Innofill Can DVD as its centerpiece, and the efficient, resource-saving KHS Transomat 5/1 Duo keg system are primarily used to fill the brewery's top year-round tipple, this being Spotted Cow, a fruity ale, and Moon Man with its characteristic blend of five hops.
Master brewer and co-owner Dan Carey learned his trade in London, California and Bavaria. Following this, he planned and commissioned several dozen breweries throughout the whole of the United States. However, it's Dan's wife Deb, president and founder of New Glarus Brewing Company, who enabled the couple to realize their dream of running their own brewery. She procured the used brewing equipment, initiated the funding and found a suitable venue to start making beer on the Carey's own account. This place was New Glarus, an idyllic spot in Wisconsin which was founded by Swiss immigrants in 1845 and still bears the name of the original canton in Switzerland.
Dan's and Deb's brewing philosophy is quite simple: it's based on individuality, partnership and the exclusive use of natural ingredients to produce first-class, hand-crafted beers for friends in Wisconsin. Unlike most craft breweries New Glarus doesn't distribute its products around the globe.
Accordingly, where they can Dan and Deb prefer to use local companies as their business partners. As luck would have it KHS' headquarters in America are just 90 miles away in Waukesha, right next door to Wisconsin's biggest city of Milwaukee. The first joint project in 2004 was to install a Transomat kegging system, with a KegBoy added in 2008, a washing and racking machine specially designed for low capacities. With the new Innofill Can DVD canning line in 2016, KHS and New Glarus have now made it possible for Wisconsinians to also purchase Spotted Cow in cans.
In the KHS can filler Dan Carey has opted for a system which is extremely gentle on resources; with its low-pressure CAN+ purging process the Innofill Can DVD enables up to 50% less oxygen pickup using the same amount of CO2. A Transomat 5/1 Duo keg system was also commissioned at New Glarus Brewing Company in March 2016 which makes keg racking much faster than on the previous setup. This not only benefits each and every one of the around 100 people who work for New Glarus; the seven million inhabitants of Wisconsin also profit from the company's new technology.
