How did you come to KHS?

My first interaction with KHS was at a craft brewery, where I operated and helped maintain a KHS CombiKeg. Shortly after starting there, a new KHS filling machine for glass bottles was installed, and I had the chance to work directly with a few KHS service technicians. The professionalism and work ethic of the KHS team were highly regarded. When I was looking for a new job opportunity, KHS was at the top of my list. After an interview, I knew it would be a great fit for me.

I think KHS offers impressive technology and great people. It's also attractive because there are so many opportunities to get involved and grow within the company.

How did your career evolve from service technician to director at KHS?

I started at KHS in 2015 as a service technician. My goal wasn't to become a manager; I wanted to be hands-on and use my skills practically. The job allowed me to work across the US and in Mexico and to learn and develop my skills and knowledge with KHS fillers. During my time as a service technician, our service group went through an organizational change.

My years working with customers as a regional service manager allowed me to develop relationships with our customers. I was also able to familiarize myself with KHS equipment beyond my initial expertise of fillers by working with the service technicians. My transition into the sales team has been fairly smooth, though it remains a daily challenge. My mentor, Rob Hyams, often pushed me. He believed my work with customers in the service area would translate well to the sales team and recommended me to replace him upon his retirement.

What do you enjoy most about your daily work?

I find it exciting that every day is different. A new day means figuring out what to do, such as analyzing a customer visit plan or reaching out to clients. I can say that KHS offers many technical and infrastructure advantages. Good communication and cooperation between our various teams, including project management, scheduling, field service, inside sales and technical support, are essential. It's much more than just the technical side.

Why should young people choose a career/apprenticeship in your job?

For young people, the job as a service technician is a great chance to learn on the job. You can travel around the world and learn new skills. You work closely with customers and other people. It's fulfilling to find good solutions for customers. Beyond technical know-how, it's a significant challenge to identify and meet customer needs. 

There are many different paths you can choose. KHS offers high-level technology, and you can also move into a management role. The job as a service technician can lead to roles as a project or sales manager. Overall, you have a variety of possibilities.

What do you do besides your job? What hobbies do you have?

Besides my job, I enjoy brewing beer at home. In the past, I worked in a brewery on the packaging side. In my free time, I go hunting and fishing. Sometimes I prefer to go alone, and sometimes with friends. It's a good way to clear my mind. My wife and I love to go on walks with our two dogs.
